Abidjan Performing Arts Market (MASA)

MASA was officially created at the second Conference of Ministers of Culture and Francophonie held in Liège (Belgium) in 1990. The French-speaking ministers meeting there decided to create this market to build the capacity of African professionals in the performing arts (music, theatre, dance) and give African productions and their artists access to the international market.
The first edition was organised in Abidjan in 1993 by the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) and the Ivorian Ministry of Culture.
On 5 March 1998, MASA became an "International Programme for the Development of the Living Arts". It is an independent structure, with its headquarters in Abidjan, following the signing of an agreement between MASA and the government of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire in January 1999.
