IDA for Africa: Heads of State Summit

7 July 2022

The Republic of Senegal and the World Bank Group are holding a high-level meeting with African leaders on 7 July 2022 to mobilise African countries to implement the International Development Association (IDA-20) programme. African heads of state had already fully endorsed the priorities and financial envelope of IDA-20 last year at a similar summit in Abidjan. The IDA-20 cycle covers the period from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2025.

The International Development Association (IDA) is a leading donor in the fight against extreme poverty in the world's poorest countries. It provides grants and low or no interest loans to finance projects and programmes that stimulate economic growth, build resilience and improve the lives of the poorest.

The event will reinforce the position of the World Bank, and in particular IDA, at the heart of the region's efforts to manage and overcome the multiple crises it faces. The Heads of State will confirm their commitment to a strong recovery in Africa and will focus on identifying priority projects that can transform and "leapfrog" the continent with dedicated IDA support.
