With a population of over 100 million, Egypt is the largest country by population in the Middle East and North Africa. It is also a highly strategic market for the development of regional startups. But in Egypt, as in India, China and Pakistan, it is local founders who are leading the way and creating the first generation of leading tech companies. One of the leading startups in the new wave of tech innovation in Egypt is the digital supermarket solution, Breadfast. What is Breadfast and how is it making a difference to consumers? That's in this Fanaka Story.

Breadfast, the digital supermarket that is revolutionising fast food

Breadfast is a fast commerce startup that offers same-day and next-day delivery of fresh everyday products (bakery, fruits, vegetables), basic supermarket supplies and other household items at the click of a button via its app. Since its inception in 2017, the startup has quickly made the daily lives of Egyptians easier and has begun to grow.

Breakfast is :

- a growth of 25 % per month,
- 200,000 households served across Egypt,
- more than 2,500 different products on offer,
- more than 30 million dollars raised.

The young company was inspired by the fast-track business models set up around the world by start-ups such as Getir, Rappi and GoPuff. It is now the market leader in Egypt and has big regional ambitions for the coming years. It is targeting over 6 million deliveries in the coming months.

Breadfast, as the name suggests, started with the manufacture and delivery of fresh bread. Its founders, Abdallah Nofal and Muhammad Habib, realised that bread was the most fundamental element in Egyptian homes and therefore decided to invest in this sector to ensure exceptional quality and customer experience. After perfecting its logistics and supply chain with bread, Breadfast soon expanded its offering to provide Egyptians with thousands of household items.

To maintain the high level of quality promised to Egyptians, the startup has developed a modern infrastructure and dynamic technology, as in emerging markets like Egypt, the last-mile warehousing and delivery infrastructure is often limited and unreliable. Today, Breadfast has 30 shops across Egypt and fully manages its own sourcing and last mile logistics. With a presence in Cairo, as well as Giza, Alexandria and Mansoura, it plans to expand into other cities in Egypt to broaden its presence in the country.

Breadfast is Egypt's leading fast-track retailer and a digital supermarket solution that provides Egyptians with their daily essentials. The innovative start-up provides food and other household supplies. Since its inception, it has been growing rapidly across the country and has ambitions to expand regionally.
